First and foremost, Natralock stops thieves in their tracks.
The tear-resistant Natralock packaging structure locks the product inside its “bubble” or “blister pack.” That makes it a real pain to try to steal. Its proprietary heat seal coating forms a impenetrable bond between the front and back cards, sealing in the product. The added tear resistant film makes it virtually impossible to tear in the retail environment.
Natralock livens up the shopping experience with graphics.
Unlike plastic clamshells which limit package graphics, Natralock opens the door to creativity with expanded printable space and a far superior printing surface to work with. No other security packaging adds color (lots of it), boldness and brightness to the point-of-sale like Natralock.
Natralock stops over-packaging and is kinder to the environment.
- Natralock is more recyclable than clamshells.
Few U.S. recycling programs accept clamshells, regardless of resin type (PET or PVC). In comparison, according to a recent community survey from R. W. Beck, over 57% of the U.S. population has access to recycling programs for paperboard — the predominant material in the Natralock package. Consumers who have access to these paperboard recycling programs should remove the “bubble” or “blister” and place the paperboard component into their recycling bins. The bubble itself isn’t as easily recyclable*, but MeadWestvaco remains committed to finding a recoverable alternative.
(*While PET beverage containers are highly recyclable, common plastic “blister” material is thermoformed and should not be placed in a container recycling bin.)
- Natralock is sealed with heat, not chemicals.
Other fiber-based alternatives can use a solvent-based sealing process, which emits 700 times the VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and 1,300 times the HAPs (hazardous air pollutants) generated in the heat-based Natralock sealing process.
- Natralock is made from a renewable resource.
The predominant component in Natralock is the paperboard card – made from trees, a renewable resource, that MeadWestvaco carefully stewards from harvest to replanting of the next forest. MeadWestvaco’s forestry and fiber procurement practices have been third-party certified to meet the requirements of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI). SFI®, in turn, has been endorsed by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC), an internationally-recognized organization that evaluates forest certification systems.
